Ride to the top of the Cangshan range for pine forests, mountain air, and Erhai laid out below.
The Cangshan range walls Dali's west, and the cableway delivers you from lake level to 3,900 meters of pine forest, cloud, and silence. The boardwalk along the ridge passes azalea thickets and glacier-carved valleys.
Go in the morning before the clouds build. The higher Zhonghe route is the classic; the longer Gantong route is more scenic. Either way, layer up - the top is genuinely cold.
Best for: Mountain air and a bird's-eye of Erhai Lake.
