Zhanqiao Pier
Shinan, Qingdao
Qingdao's 1892 pier and octagonal pavilion, extending into the Yellow Sea like a finger pointing at history.
Zhanqiao is Qingdao's founding monument: the 1892 pier where the city began, extending 440 meters into the bay to a pagoda-like pavilion locals call the 'red lantern'. It is where every Qingdao story starts.
The pier is free and always lively - fishing, selfie sticks, and seagulls in winter. Come at sunrise when the bay is glass and the crowds are still asleep.
Best for: The 1892 pier where Qingdao began.
