Xunpu Floral Headwear
Quanzhou, Quanzhou
The fishing village where women wear living gardens on their heads - and visitors are welcome to join.
In Xunpu, women have worn towering floral headdresses for centuries - a custom tied to the sea goddess Mazu. The village's elderly women still dress in full tradition on weekdays, and a dozen shops now rent the headdress and photo outfit to visitors.
It became China's most viral photo trend for good reason. Go in the morning, rent the full look, and let the village aunties pin the flowers.
Best for: Wearing a garden on your head, the Xunpu way.
